Understand your user flows

Technical SEO is the practice of ensuring that all potential pitfalls and opportunities involving the technology or structure of your website are being addressed. We care about the relationship between your website and the rest of the internet, particularly search engines and their crawlers. When you link to a webpage, you’re proclaiming that you trust that content as a resource – so your brand is on the line. Producing content for search engines is also content marketing, list building, and relationship marketing. If you're willing to vouch for links added by third parties (e.g. if a commenter is trusted on your site), then there's no need to use nofollow on links; however, linking to sites that Google considers spammy can affect the reputation of your own site. I am passionate about SEO, and digital marketing more generally, but I also understand it has its pitfalls, the main one being the complex, crowded and confusing market for SEO services.

Why do backlinks matter?

A handy thing to know when you are acquiring links from other sources is the difference between follow and nofollow links. Allow visitors to your site to social bookmark it for later, by providing your visitors this option, you are helping create links that will raise you in search engine ranks. Not only that, but you can find free widgets that can help you accomplish this for free. Remember the higher in search results, the easier you can be found and get more traffic. Users searching for your site on Google might not necessarily want to land on your homepage. Is Keyword Research an important player in the game of SEO?

Most SEO’s (and dare i say internet marketers) fall victim to optimizing too heavily for traffic, and not conversion. The main aim of your content should still be to provide value and relevance for your target audience, but this doesn’t mean that it can’t be slightly more SEO-focused. CTR gives some insight into how likely potential visitors are to actually click on your site in the SERPs.

Metadata has become less important in SEO but is crucial to video indexing. Like images, Google can’t read media in the same way it can plain text, so your metadata should describe the video so that it can be read by search engine crawlers. A site can never have enough content. There is always an opportunity to create new pieces of content, and the newness – or ‘freshness’ – of content is also one of Google’s ranking signals. : Article marketing involves writing one unique article, and then rearranging the words to transform that one article into multiple versions. This rearranged article will then be placed on different, usually low-quality article sites with highly optimized anchor text links. One good way to know what’s coming in the world of SEO is to keep your eyes peeled to industry news sites and specifically Google’s own blog. Work with Google to provide your users with the most relevant, well-informed and entertaining answers to their questions. Prove that you are trustworthy by connecting as closely as possible to high authority sites.
